About ClearVote

A nonpartisan, plain-language guide to voting in Canada.

What we do

ClearVote helps people see what's on their ballot, who's running, and how to vote. We start with British Columbia: the provincial election and the local election in Chilliwack. More places will follow.

Nonpartisan, always

ClearVote does not support, endorse or oppose any party, candidate or cause. We never tell you who to vote for. To keep ourselves honest:

  • Parties and candidates are always listed in alphabetical order, never ranked.
  • Every party and candidate gets the same kind of description, drawn from the same kind of source.
  • We use neutral styling. No party colours, no endorsements, no polls.
  • We link to candidates' own websites so you can read them in their own words. Those links go to sites we don't control.

Where our information comes from

  • BC candidates: the final candidate list published by Elections BC ↗. We publish each candidate's name, riding and party only.
  • Voting rules and dates: Elections BC for the provincial election, and the City of Chilliwack for the local election.
  • Chilliwack candidates: the City's declared candidates, the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce election hub ↗, and each candidate's own website.
  • Party leaders: reported by news outlets and party announcements. Leadership can change quickly, so always confirm with the party.

We can get things wrong

Lists change, candidates withdraw, and dates move. We check our pages against the official sources, but ClearVote is a guide, not the official record. For anything that affects your vote, such as dates, ID and voting places, always confirm with the official election authority.

Your privacy

ClearVote doesn't ask you to sign up, doesn't use ads, and doesn't track you across the web. The province you choose is remembered only in your own browser.
