How to vote in the Chilliwack election

Where to vote on October 17

You can vote at any of these places if you live in the City of Chilliwack or in Electoral Areas D, E or H.

  • Cultus Lake Community School, 71 Sunnyside Blvd.
  • Rosedale Traditional Community School, 50850 Yale Road

Who can vote

Residents

  • You are a Canadian citizen.
  • You are 18 or older when you register, or on general voting day.
  • You have lived in B.C. for at least six months before you register.
  • You live in the municipality or electoral area on the day you register.

Non-resident property owners

You may also vote if you meet the age, citizenship and B.C. residency rules and have been the registered owner of real property in Chilliwack for at least 30 days before registering. Corporations can't vote, and you can't vote based on property owned wholly or partly by a corporation.

Registration and ID

You don't need to register ahead of time, and voting cards aren't mailed out. You register when you vote.

  • Bring two pieces of identification that prove who you are and where you live.
  • At least one must show your signature.
  • If neither shows your address, you can make a solemn declaration of where you live.
  • A BC driver's licence and BC Care Card together count as only one piece.
  • Examples: BC Services Card, BC driver's licence, BC Care Card, Canadian citizenship card, passport, Status card, utility bill, ICBC vehicle insurance documents.

Voting by mail

Apply online by 4 p.m. on October 14. The City recommends returning your package in person to the City Hall drop box (open around the clock until 8 p.m. on voting day). You can also return it at City Hall, 8550 Young Road, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by mail. It's your responsibility to make sure it arrives by 8 p.m. on October 17.
